An ode to Sunday mornings

26 Feb

In my mind, it may be the best morning of the entire week. If you’ve treated yourself well on Friday and Saturday night you can wake up refreshed, ready for whatever comes your way. If you feel like crap, you have time for eggs, toast and the New York Times — the perfect brunch in my mind.

I would not be able to pull this look off but I’m sure some of you daring souls out there can, will and have.

Boat shoes in the city

13 Feb

I’ve never owned a pair of boat shoes. They strike me as a bit out of place in the big city and better suited for the memory they conjure up — Southern men in khaki shorts, popped polo shirts and croakies. But these look pretty cute and totally comfy for city walks.

Anna Wintour on the street

Can’t you almost feel how soft her coat is? Of course it’s real, and you are totally within your right to think it’s awful to wear real fur. I have no comment on the matter. I am self-admittedly more focused on the superficial here and that is one gorgeous frock.

Anna, may I borrow your coat?

Thai massage workshop on 14th St

12 Feb

I have to put in a plug for Yoga District for putting together a fabulous thai yoga massage workshop for couples and friends (and a big thanks to my friend, Roni, for recommending it). My husband and I went with an open mind, not knowing quite what to expect, and turned out running into people we know and loving the experience. The workshop includes powerful bodywork, meditative breathing and acupressure massage — all done hand in hand with your loved one. It’s a truly awesome way to spend two hours on the weekend.

Gracy, the instructor, also teaches restorative yoga on Friday nights at Quiet Mind. She’s thoughtful, attentive and inspiring. Keep an eye out on Yoga District’s website for more similar classes. I hear that Flow Yoga next to Whole Foods on P St NW offers thai massage as well.
